Inside Davina McCall’s relationship with hairstylist boyfriend as he supports her through major surgery

1 week ago 2

TV legend Davina McCall has recently opened up about her diagnosis with a very rare brain condition.

The former Big Brother presenter, 57, revealed she is having surgery to remove 14mm wide brain tumour.

She said in a video on her Instagram that she was one of the three in a million who had been diagnosed with having a ‘very rare’ colloid cyst.

Colloid cysts are benign, meaning they are non-cancerous, small fluid-filled sacs located in or around the lateral and third ventricle of the brain, according to the London Neurosurgery Partnership.

Davina said she consulted with several neurosurgeons and after ‘lots of opinions’ decided to have the tumour removed because it is ‘big for the space’ in her brain and ‘if it grows it will be bad’.

The Masked Singer judge was joined in the video by her partner of five-years, celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas, who said he would keep fans updated on her health.

He also made several jokes throughout the video, keeping Davina’s spirits up ahead of the scary operation.

It was clear from the way the pair interacted in the video that Michael is a major support system for Davina in this difficult time, leading fans to once again reflect on the pair’s charming love story.

Here’s everything you need to know about Davina McCall’s love life.

Who is Davina McCall dating?

Michael, 49, was Davina’s hairstylist but their connection soon grew, with the pair announcing their romance back in 2019 – two years after her split from husband Matthew Robertson.

Davina and Michael had been friends for 20 years prior to getting together, and mostly keep quiet about their relationship.

Michael is the founder of hair styling company mdlondon and has been styling hair for more than 35 years.

Davina said: ‘We’ve got an agreement that I don’t talk about our relationship, because our exes and kids don’t have a right to reply, so it’s not fair.’

She also said that keeping private about their relationship helps to keep it ‘magic’.

She said: ‘I give so much of myself to the public that I need something just for me,’ she explained, saying ‘keeping my love life private …. keeps the magic.’

She insisted they’re not ‘purposefully trying to hide away from anyone’ but ‘privacy keeps our relationship special to us.’

‘There’s something lovely about it and that’s all it is. It keeps it really magical and I like that.’

Since going public with their relationship, the couple have launched a podcast, Making The Cut, that aims to help people make the tough decisions in their life, whether that’s what to watch on TV that night, or where to go on holiday.

‘I love doing the podcast with him. It’s basically an extension of what we’ve always done as friends, which is to recommend things to each other,’ she revealed.

The couple now live together in Kent, with two of Davina’s three children: Holly, 22, and Chester, 17. Her middle daughter, Tilly, 20, moved to Australia last year.

Discussing their relationship, Davina said: ‘I am quite enjoying being a new couple doing new things, because we are newly living together.

‘It’s quite nice making new traditions because we did that before Christmas, we sat down together and talked about it: ‘Ok, blank space, what shall we make tradition from now on?’

Davina shares her three children with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson, who she married in 2000, but then divorced in 2017.

Speaking to The Sun, she revealed: ‘I have made many mistakes in my life’.

Confirming the split at the time, she said: ‘I am very sad to say Matthew and I have separated. Our amazing children are our number one priority.’

Before Matthew, Davina had been briefly married to shop manager Andrew Leggett from 1997-1999.

It’s clear that five years later, Davina and Michael are still going strong and able to lean on each other even in times of difficulty.
