Ncuti Gatwa is set to grace our screens on Christmas Day as The Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas special, airing on BBC One.
Titled Joy to the World, the special marks the return of writer Steven Moffat's festive storytelling magic to the series for the first time since the 2017 Christmas special. Ncuti will star alongside Derry Girls actress Nicola Coughlan, as they unravel the mystery of a hotel chain that discovers the secret of time travel.
While Ncuti didn’t step into the role of The Doctor immediately, his acting career is already brimming with standout performances.
He first shot to fame in Netflix’s Sex Education, where he portrayed the charismatic and witty Eric Effiong, a confident gay teenager navigating school and college life.
Ncuti has also taken to the big screen staring in the iconic Barbie movie, as well as in the television series Masters of the Air.
Although just before he got his big break in Sex Education, the star admitted he was homeless for five months and was sofa surfing as he couldn't afford rent in London after running out of his savings.
The actor told the Big Issue: "When I became homeless, I was successful. I had performed at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre and in the West End. I may have been an unknown theatre actor, but, as an actor working regularly, I was a successful one. Until I found myself without a home and with no money of my own."
"As I was standing on the street with my suitcases, one thought came into my head: 'I’m homeless," he continued.
Now a proud homeowner of a stunning London home, the star has left the days of sofa surfing far behind.
Let's take a look inside the place he calls home...
