They’re never letting go — of each other! Leonardo DiCaprio shared a warm embrace with Kate Winslet during a special screening of her Lee Miller biopic at the Harmony Gold theater in L.A. on November 19.
“Kate, my dear friend, your work in this film has been nothing short of transformative,” the actor, 50, gushed while introducing the movie. “I continue to be awestruck. I continue to admire your strength, your integrity, your talent and your passion [for] every project that you create.”
His words nearly brought Kate to tears. “I can’t even look at Leo now or else I’ll cry,” the actress, 49, admitted.
Kate and Leo grew extremely close during the making of 1997’s Titanic, and while fans of the film hoped the costars would become a couple, romance wasn’t in the cards. “We never fancied each other,” Kate’s confessed. “I know that’s really annoying to hear, sorry, but we really never did.”
They did become lifelong friends, though. “Honestly, [we are] like family,” Kate’s said. Leo even reportedly walked his fellow Oscar winner down the aisle at her 2012 wedding to Ned Rocknroll.
“Kate and Leo can go months without seeing each other, but then they’ll be at a party or an event and it’s like time hasn’t passed at all,” says a source. “Their friendship means a lot to them.”
