Sutton Foster’s rumored romance with Hugh Jackman is seemingly heating up. After she filed for divorce from Ted Griffin in October 2024, fans are wondering about the Younger alum’s dating history.

Whispers about a romance brewing between Hugh and Sutton started after the two became close while working on the Broadway show The Music Man. Sutton snagged the role of Marian Paroo while Hugh took on the part of Professor Harold Hill in 2021.
“He has an impeccable reputation of being the hardest working man, incredibly kind, and generous—and all of that is true. He disarms everyone, and he doesn’t make anything about him,” Sutton gushed about the Deadpool & Wolverine star during an interview with Vogue published on June 10, 2022. “And he’s now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, Well, I hope we get along. But we just spent Memorial Day with our families. It’s really fun to meet new friends after 40.”
At the time, both Sutton and Hugh were married. Hugh was married to Deborra-Lee Furness while Sutton was with Ted Griffin. However, in September 2023, Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced they were separating.
The following month, In Touch was the first to report that secret sparks were flying between Hugh and Sutton at the time.
“Their romance is an open secret on Broadway,” an insider said in October 2023.
Another source revealed that Hugh “has been besotted with Sutton from the moment he met her. He followed her around like a puppy.”
A third insider added, “[Sutton and Hugh] have been inseparable. Everyone in the theater world has seen the chemistry between them. It was only a matter of time before the truth came out.”

The Tony Award winner and Ted first met on a blind date that was set up by mutual friends. By 2013, Ted had popped the question and the two officially tied the knot the following year. They adopted a child together in 2017 – a little girl they named Emily.
“This is a whole new chapter in our lives,” Sutton told People in 2018, referring to the adoption of Emily. “It’s been full, and amazing and exhausting and wonderful.”
In that same interview, Sutton opened up about her marriage to Ted.
“There was something about being with Ted that made me want kids,” Sutton explained. “He belonged in my family. I didn’t really understand the concept of motherhood until he came around.”
Unfortunately, the marriage wasn’t meant to last. In October 2024, Page Six reported that the Broadway star had filed for an uncontested divorce in New York County Supreme Court.

Before Ted, Sutton was married to Christian Borle, a fellow Broadway actor. The former couple met in college and fell in love. They married in 2006, but by 2009, they had called it quits. Despite divorcing, Sutton and Christian remain friends and he even discussed their friendship in an interview with Time Out.
“As life took its crazy winding turns and we ended up not being married anymore, it was always a priority for us to stay friends,” Christian told the publication in 2012. “I just saw her before she headed off for her big L.A. adventure [as the star of the upcoming ABC Family series Bunheads]. When we were together, we were obsessed with Gilmore Girls. Now Sutton’s working with Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, so it’s a dream come true.”
