Meta is currently experiencing a major outage across all its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Messenger, and WhatsApp. As noted by Downdetector.com, there has been a sharp increase in reported outages from users of these various services. Here’s what we know so far.

The outages appear to have started shortly before 1pm Eastern and are being experienced by a significant number of users.

Affected services include:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Threads
  • WhatsApp
  • Facebook Messenger

At this time it’s unclear how broad the global reach of the outages is, but users from various parts of the world have confirmed Meta’s services being down or encountering issues.

Meta has not yet released an update or comment on the outage, but we will keep you posted when they do share something.

Users who try to load these services are encountering a variety of issues, both on the web and in their respective apps.

Problems being encountered vary from user to user. These include:

  • not being able to use the service’s app or website at all
  • not being able to post content on the service
  • seeing errors like all Facebook posts showing zero comments
  • and/or loading the service but finding it extremely slow and laggy

It is extremely rare for outages to cause so many major services to go down at once.

However, since Meta owns and operates some of the most popular social platforms in the world, any time its services experience an outage, the impact tends to be widespread.

What issues are you seeing with Meta’s services? And what part of the world are you in? Let us know in the comments.
