Pampered cats living in the lap of luxury have gone viral, leaving many to think they lead better lives than the average human.
One proud pet parent, who goes by the social media tag @papayaho.cat, shared a glimpse into the extravagant routines of her two cats, Papaya and Banana, racking up 5.4 million views and 674,000 likes on Instagram.
"When your cats live a better life than you," the caption reads, accompanying a video showcasing the felines' plush daily rituals.
The day begins with the owner gently waking the cozy duo from their opulent beds—miniature replicas of human single beds, complete with pillows and duvets. "Time for dinner," she calls out, as the sleepy pets reluctantly emerge from their cocoon of blankets. Banana appears more keen than his sibling Banana for mealtime.
Dinner is no ordinary affair. The cats are served dry food and hydrate from their very own water fountain—a luxury most humans can only dream of.
Post-meal relaxation involves a screening of a classic Christmas movie, The Grinch. After a day of indulgence, the pampered pair retreat to their beds for yet another nap.
Given that cats typically sleep between 12 and 16 hours a day, such routines make perfect sense. As explained by pet food brand Purina, felines are natural-born nappers, spending most of their time dozing to conserve energy for hunting, even if their "prey" is limited to toys in a modern home.
The best way to wake a cat involves a gentle approach: try humming, softly calling their name, or lightly stroking them. Abrupt movements or loud noises can startle them, so waking them with care ensures a smoother transition from dreamland.
