Is Colton a Time-Traveler? 'The Way Home' Cast Tease Season 3’s Biggest Mystery

1 week ago 12

Season 2 of The Way Home left fans gasping in shock at the very end. In a moment no viewer was expecting, Colton (Jefferson Brown) was revealed to be watching his younger self with his young son, Jacob. Immediately, fans couldn’t help but speculate. So does this confirm he was a time traveler? How long has he been dipping in the pond?

As it turns out, season 3’s biggest mystery has captivated its cast too.

“I would just say, from Del’s perspective, adamantly he did not time travel,” Andie MacDowell, who plays Colton’s wife Del, tells SheKnows. “Of course, he didn’t, because he would have told her if he had time travel because they were a close couple, they told each other everything. So certainly he did not time travel, or he would have told Del, right?”

For Chyler Leigh, who plays Colton’s daughter Kat, it’s been easier to go with the flow in the show’s writing than to think too hard about each of the plot twists herself.

“I gave up trying to come up with theories honestly, because, and I’m a storyteller as well, so it’s like, I should have gotten it, but there’s still so much stuff that I’m still scratching my head about we’ve already filmed it,” Leigh said. “So I’m like, I hope I reacted the right way because I did not understand that.”

“It’s just so interwoven and so beautifully done, but so complex,” she adds. “I’ll probably have to re-watch the episodes a couple of times myself.”

For Evan Williams, who’s admittedly the “nerd” of the cast, he always goes above and beyond to understand that complexities of his own show and character, Elliot.

“I have to literally map out what I’m doing,” he says. “I have sort of developed like a legend kind of format, it’s a little neuro-spicy, I think.”

“I really like to zero in on that little minutia, which I know it’s cool to be able to play a character that is like that too,” he adds. “I like it when art imitates life like that.”

Sadie Laflamme-Snow, who plays Colton’s granddaughter Alice, also chimed in.

“There’s a possibility that there’s this sort of hole in time that we haven’t really explored,” she says of Colton’s possible time-traveling adventures. “And I think one of the most exciting things is that we sort of know the story backward, and so the possibilities for the show are so endless.”

Regardless of whether she knows Colton’s story or not, Laflamme-Snow knows that finding out this side of Colton is something that the cast, and the fans, would love.

“It’s something that I think all the characters have wanted to believe that maybe there’s something somewhere that we don’t know about Colton that would give us more time, or give us reassurance, or give us some sort of closure from this experience that was so painful of losing him,” she says. “It’s definitely a hope for the characters, and I think a hope for the audience, in a lot of ways, because he’s such a beloved character.”

“We’ll have to see where we’ll have to see where that goes,” she teases.
