A few weeks ago, Lyle Menendez bragged about his wedding anniversary in a personal statement included in a resentencing memo. He didn’t mention anything about a separation, though. Last week, Lyle Menendez’s estranged wife, Rebecca Sneed, gave a different insight into their decades-long relationship.
Details On Lyle Menendez & His Wife’s Separation
As mentioned, Rebecca is who made the separation news public. In her Facebook announcement, she also revealed that she and Lyle had been split for a hot minute. NBA News reportedly verified that the account belongs to Rebecca Sneed via the Menendez brothers’ lawyers. Again, her announcement seemingly contradicts Lyle Menedez’s personal statement, which was dated Nov. 7, per E! News. However, Sneed assured their supporters that mutual love still exists between them and that she’s rooting for the freedom of the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Eric.
“Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family,” Sneed wrote. “I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years.”
In addition to fighting for their freedom, Rebecca added that she’ll continue to update fans on their case. “I will never stop fighting for them,” she wrote. While she didn’t reveal what led to the separation, Lyle Menendez’s wife confirmed their split was not because of a “cheating scandal.”
Here’s What Lyle Recently Said About His Estranged Wife
For context, Lyle is one of two brothers who infamously murdered their parents in 1989. In October 2024, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón shared plans to file a recommendation for resentencing of the Menendez brothers on the murder charge. However, days after the announcement, Gascón lost his re-election bid, meaning the brothers’ case will now be in the hands of his successor, Nathan Hochman. Hochman has not shared any of his intentions for the case yet.

As mentioned, though, Lyle is still fighting for his freedom. His personal statement boasted to the court about how his marriage has positively impacted him over the years.
“Learning to be a husband and a partner from inside a prison has been challenging. It has also changed my life in so many positive ways,” Lyle Menendez wrote. “Her unwavering support and belief in me is something I am most grateful for and has played no small part in my journey to be a better person.”
Rebecca Sneed is Lyle’s second wife; Anna Eriksson was his first. The former couple got married on July 2, 1996, the same day Lyle was sentenced to life in prison. She filed for divorce in 2001 after allegedly learning he was a pen pal to other women.
