JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock review 2024

1 month ago 3

The JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock is a well-priced option in this space. In the version we tested, there were two alarm settings, eight sleep sounds, 15 light options (though the upgraded version offers 17 light options and 25 sounds), FM radio, a nightlight mode, customized dawn duration, and snooze option. The newer version also has Bluetooth capability, though that feature wasn't included in the version we tested. We think this sunrise alarm clock is best for someone new to sunrise alarms who wants to see how they like this wakeup experience before shelling out more. However, if you’re someone who gets overwhelmed with too many options or buttons, it isn’t the clock for you.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Review in brief

If you’re looking to give the sunrise alarm clock experience a try without spending a ton of money, we think you’ll like the JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock. It's one of the best sunrise alarm clocks this year, and has plenty of wakeup options to help you rise in the morning to gentle light changes and a variety of sounds, and it makes for a cool mood light or nightlight to keep on your nightstand. With user-favorite features like white noise machine sounds, and a USB port for charging your phone, you’ll also be able to reduce the clutter on your bedside table.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock

Type: Wake-up light with sunrise simulation and alarm clock
Best for: Anyone shopping a sunrise alarm clock on a budget
Dimensions: 7.5" W x 7.2" H
Warranty: Lifetime
Price: $34.95 at Amazon

The JALL has plenty of bells and whistles on it – literally. It has bell sounds and birds whistling or chirping as options to wake up to, or fall asleep to if that’s your jam. When we tested this clock, there were 15 colorful light options, eight sleep sounds and – an FM radio! (For those of us who still associate FM radio alarm clocks with the ‘Groundhog Day’ movie scene when Bill Murray wakes up to “I’ve Got You Babe,” by Sonny & Cher, we think you’ll be excited about this feature. Or maybe that's just our tester's elder millennial age bracket revealing itself.)

This round alarm clock takes up only about 7.5”x 7.2” and weighs in at 1 pound, making it easy to stash in your luggage if you get attached and need to pack it when you travel.

When we tested the JALL it cost $34.95, and that pricing remains the same for the upgraded version. JALL also offer a Wake Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock for Kids, which currently retails for $38.98 on Amazon and offers seven colors and seven sounds.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock updates

Wish there were more sound options and color options? Since we reviewed this model, an upgraded version has been introduced for the same price, with 25 built-in sounds and 17 colorful lighting options (including 9 mood lights and 8 solid color lights). While that might seem like too many options for some sleep-seekers to set at night (like this tired mom), there is also a great new Bluetooth feature added so you can wake up to sounds of your choice on your phone. Although we tested a slightly different version of this sunrise alarm clock, overall, we think the functionality of the device is likely to be similar.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Price

The upgraded JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock sits at an affordable $34.95. That’s quite a deal when compared to the Hatch Restore 2 Sunrise Alarm Clock for $169.99 on Hatch.com. If you want to compare them further, read our Hatch Restore 2 Sunrise Alarm Clock review.

It’s comparable to the Reacher Sunrise alarm clock with Bluetooth speaker for $54.99 on Amazon or the ANTDALIS sunrise alarm clock with 20 colors for $24.99 on Amazon.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: $34.95 at Amazon
The JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock is one of our recommended budget sunrise alarm clocks. You can currently get it from third-party retailers such as Amazon for an affordable $34.95, though it's worth keeping an eye out for discounts over the course of the year.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Features

The core selling point of this alarm clock, in our opinion, is that it’s good for someone who wants a lot of variety in their sunrise wake-up light. As well as the numerous options for light and sound, there are 12 buttons to use on the side to set sounds, dimmer, alarms, and colors, as well as a ‘snooze’ dial on the top that you use to set each feature. The back of the clock then has six options for days and times for setting two alarms.

While overall, it's easy to set up and the instructions are clear, with so many options available you’ll need to consult the instruction booklet a few times to get the hang of it if you want to change settings up. Our reviewer felt that it seemed like too much could possibly go wrong if they wanted to set up a night light sleep mode to go off when she fell asleep and a sunrise alarm clock the next morning.

The box of the clock we tested calls it a “Smart” wake-up light but we don’t think the tech-savvy readers of this site would use that term. It's fair to say that the sunrise clock we reviewed does what you program it to do, it wasn't connected to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, features that would be more likely to call it “smart” in our opinion. However, while we would describe the model we reviewed as an analog device, the latest upgrade of the JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock has a Bluetooth feature.

We rated the sleek white look of the clock and the round shape to remind one of the sun, but you can also spend up to get various versions that include a wood grain finish on the bottom and back ($49.98) or, a fabric light gray version ($49.98). When we tested it, the JALL came with a lifetime warranty, which was activated by emailing the address provided. However, details of the warranty for the upgraded version are not available on Amazon.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Ease of use

Getting this alarm clock set up was easy to do. Since it doesn’t require a connection to WiFi, it simply needed unboxing, plugging in and to have the clock set. There isn’t a remote control.

However, since there are two alarms — one on each side — and two switches on the back designating which alarms to set for weekdays and weekends, it’s not an entirely intuitive setup.

When reviewing this sunrise alarm clock, we read the instructions to set up one alarm for the first morning and played around with the light settings, colors, duration of the sunrise simulation, and experimented with the sounds.

The instructions were detailed, illustrated and simple to follow but not easy to remember. For example, each time we wanted to change a setting for the sound feature, or choose a different color option, for the next morning, we found we needed to consult the instructions again because there are 13 button options to choose from on the side and six settings on the back.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Performance

Set-up

In its favor, the JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock was very easy to set up, all we had to do was insert the DC EV cord into the unit and plug it into the wall. It was also simple to set the time and date up.

When we unplugged the unit to move it to a different area of the house for testing and observation, we were pleased to see the time was correct when it was plugged back in even though the unit was completely off during the period it was unplugged.

Connectivity

This unit doesn’t use or require WiFi. It does have a USB port on the back you can use for charging your phone or devices. The JALL we tested came with a CR20232 battery already installed (which is only there as a backup in case of power failure), but the upgraded version requires you to purchase one yourself.

Sunrise simulation

Although the upgraded version boasts 17 colorful light options, the version we tested offered 15 options to choose from, but we think both allow your sunrise to feel different every morning. We were also able to make our favorite shades darker or brighter, creating an ideal sunrise hue to wake to. Our tester preferred the blues and purples, while her kids enjoyed watching the “rainbow” effect on the light. It’s a pretty lamp to have on display and it would look nice in an office or even to bring out at a party.

Alarms

Having two alarms can be very helpful if you have two people who want to use this sunrise alarm clock. It’s also nice there are settings for each alarm for Monday through Sunday, Monday through Friday, and Saturday and Sunday. That being said, it can take a few tries to get the sunrise colors set up as well as choosing your sounds and setting the duration of the sunrise simulation. We'd recommend giving yourself some time to try it out on your day off.

Sunset simulation

The sunrise light intensity went up to level 20 (320 lux) on the version we tested, which is very bright. The 'Dawn Duration' setting gives you options from 0 to 60 minutes to choose from which is a wider variety than some other sunrise alarm clocks. We also appreciated the dimmer on the clock, meaning you can have the display completely disappear if you don’t want any light in your face while you sleep.

Sleep sounds

Overall we felt the sounds were nice and clear and were similar to others we've heard on alarm clocks over the years. The crackling fire in particular was soothing, and not something found on all similar sunrise alarm clocks. Our tester already used a white noise machine that sounds like the ocean to fall asleep to, so appreciated that the JALL she tested had this option as well, minimizing devices required on her beside table. She did note that one sound reminded her of a barking dog and had a very robotic, harsh tone, which might not be the best option to wake up to.

JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock: Should you buy it?

Buy the JALL if...

You want two alarm options: If you’re looking for a sunrise alarm clock that allows you to set two alarms, each with their own sounds and lights and snooze times, you’ll like this clock.

You like options: If you want a lot of sound and light options, the JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock has plenty of light and sounds to choose from.

You want an affordable sunrise alarm clock: Since this sunrise alarm clock is at the lower end of the price ranges you’ll see for these types of sunrise morning lamps and lights, it’s a great product to buy to see how you like waking up to a simulated sunrise.

Don't buy the JALL if...

❌You want something simple: With 15 color options and eight sounds to choose from in the version we tested, and 17 color options and 25 sounds in the upgraded model, this device might be overwhelming if you are the kind of person who suffers from analysis paralysis.

❌You're a solo sleeper: While having the capability to set two alarms is great if you share your bed, for those who sleep alone, the additional settings and buttons might be rendered useless.

❌You want a plush model: At an affordable $34.95, the JALL Wake-Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock is on the budget end of the market for these kind of devices. If you want premium sunrise functionality and a relaxing bedtime routine you may want to consider a more premium product.
