Bravo star James Kennedy is working on himself following his December 10, 2024, arrest. The “Vanderpump Rules” star took to his Instagram Stories on January 7, 2025, to share that he’s been attending Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.
In a photo, he showed nine of the chips he received. The chips, also called sobriety coins, mark a milestone in a person’s sober journey.
Per TMZ, Burbank police took Kennedy into custody on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence last month. He was released from jail on $20,000 bail, according to a source. At the time, he’d been living with girlfriend, Ally Lewber. The two had been together since January 2022, according to Us Weekly.
Fans Reacted to James Kennedy’s Post on Reddit
Shortly after Kennedy posted the photo of his sobriety coins on Instagram many fans took to Reddit to react.
“As an addict relapsing is literally a step. Good luck to him in his journey, and I’m so happy it’s not on our screens to be exploited,” one person wrote.
“He needs to solve his issues and he needs to not be in a relationship,” someone else suggested.
“I will always root for James. He had addiction issues and anger issues (and I don’t know enough about addiction issues to know if they are related). But I hope Ally leaves him for good. He needs to do some serious hard work on himself bc the DV charge is just unacceptable,” a third comment read.
“Addiction kills- I’m glad he’s getting sober. It’s not a linear process,” a fourth Redditor weighed in.

A few days later, Kennedy shared an update of his own.
“I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life. I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for my loved ones,” Kennedy said in a statement posted to his Instagram Stories on December 17, 2024.
“Navigating challenging moments is not easy but I am determined to learn, grow and move forward with the incredible support system around me,” he added.
