Heart Breakfast's very own Jamie Theakston had a rather eventful morning, revealing he was chucked off his motorbike on the way into work. The 54-year-old telly and radio legend returned to the airwaves after a courageous battle with cancer, having received the green light from doctors.

Jamie, who took time out in September, made an emotional return last Friday, delighting fans with news of his recovery from laryngeal cancer. Come Monday, he was back cracking jokes with co-host Amanda Holden, comparing his mishap on the road to something straight outta a Mr Bean sketch: "If Mr Bean had his first day back at work after four months, this is probably how it might have gone," he joked.

Jamie shed light on his mishap, explaining he forgot about an extra lock on his bike which ultimately sent him flying. Overflowing with appreciation, he gushed, "Thanks to everyone for making this morning feel very, very special. Thanks for your (the listeners') messages as well."

The show also brought tears to eyes with touching tributes from Jamie's nearest and dearest, pondering over his struggle with the big C. His missus, Sophie Siegle, got personal saying, "Hello, darling. It's me, Sophie. When we found out you had cancer, it was wow, such a dark time", meanwhile, his lad Sidney chimed in, "Well done for getting through these past few months."

After hearing Jamie's brave story, Amanda Holden said: "What an amazing man you are. You really fought very hard, Jamie, you've kept your sense of humour, which is the most important thing, I think. And isn't it wonderful? It's a terrible thing to go through, but it's a wonderful thing to see how many people love you," reports OK!.

On the show, the resilient Jamie also prompted listeners to self-check, warning: "Ignoring cancer won't beat it."

He passionately added: "Cancer loves being ignored. It's a coward that lives in the shadows, and I think that, if we can shine a light on that, then we can defeat the darkness. If we just get ourselves checked, then stage one diagnosis, which is what I was very fortunate enough to be at, shouldn't be a problem, but I do, I urge you to go and get checked."

On a related note from the NHS, laryngeal cancer hits the voice box with symptoms like swallowing pain, neck swelling, and persistent throat aches. Notably, Theakston has fronted top BBC shows including The O-Zone, Live and Kicking with Zoe Ball, and the iconic Top Of The Pops.
