Comedian Jason Manford has been stuck on Manchester Airport's runway for hours in a holiday nightmare.

The TV star revealed he is jetting off on a break with 15 of his friends, yet they had a delay to their plans. He posted a disgruntled looking selfie as he sat on the airplane and wrote: "Padel holiday with 15 pals being scuppered by the bad weather at Manchester airport! Still sat on the runway for this 9.30am flight."

He posted his frustrated message just over three hours after his plane was supposed to take off. This morning, Manchester Airport was forced to temporarily close it runways as "significant" levels of snow fell over the city. Yellow snow and ice warnings are in place in the region as people are warned of travel chaos on the roads, railways and in the skies.

Manchester Airport posted on social media to warn its passengers the runways were closed, yet they were able to reopen an hour later. However, it meant there would be delays to flights due to the closure. The airport said in an update: "Our runways are now open but as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays.

"Please check with your airline for the for the latest flight information and allow extra time for your journey today. We would like to thank our teams for their hard work in getting the runways operational again. The safety of our passengers remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and patience."

Several weather warnings are in place across the country today as temperatures plummeted to as low as -8C in the North West. The cold weather is set to continue tonight, where in some locations the mercury will drop to -16. Jason had a busy few weeks before his holiday as he's looking forward to unwinding after his pantomime performance.

He had starred at the Manchester Opera House for the third time in a row, performing as Prince Charming in the Cinderella pantomime. However, during one performance things didn’t go to plan after a medical emergency. On X, one fan mentioned the scary moment as they wrote: "Brilliant panto tonight as always this amazing cast always deliver @JasonManford @realbennickless @myradubois despite the medical emergency the show continued and never disappoints. Same time again next year of course."

Jason responded to the fan, clarifying that someone in the audience needed care. "She was a difficult night with the medical emergency but front of house staff & paramedics dealt with it so well," he wrote. "Thoughts are with the poorly person, hope you’re on the mend. Thanks to great crowd for sticking with us after 45 minutes of silence!"

It wasn't the first time Jason’s live show had taken an unexpected turn recently. Back in September, he admitted that he mixed up his pills and accidentally took a Zopiclone – a nonbenzodiazepine used to treat difficulty sleeping – half an hour before performing in Hexham, when he’d intended to take an anti-anxiety pill. Jason warned: "Always check medicine labels kids! I thought I was taking an anti-anxiety tablet 30 minutes before my first gig, but it was in fact a sleeping tablet! One of the most laid back gigs I’ve ever performed! And now the second!"
