Jay Duffy feels proud of his father Keith for opening up so candidly about his time in Boyzone in the explosive new Sky documentary.

The pair have a very close relationship and he understands that he will also be compared to and attached to his famous dad while in the spotlight.

However, he never got used to seeing his dad getting lots of female attention at gigs.

Jay told RSVP Live: "Boyzone has been my whole life and I have been along for the journey from pretty much day one.

"I don’t remember a lot of it, obviously, because I was a baby. This documentary is a celebration of all his achievements. It is so special."

Jay didn't find is strange growing up as Keith Duffy's son because it is all he knows.

He said: "I have nothing to compare it to. It is strange at times when you see women throwing lingerie at your dad on stage.

"At the end of the day he is my father and we are very close.

"What he does is very cool and it is how I got my love for what I do, which is acting. I owe a lot to him."

As adults, Jay and Keith like to spend as much time together as they can.

He said: "We like to play golf together and just hang out. We tend to keep things pretty normal."

Jay has forged in his path in showbiz appearing in Hollyoaks, Playground, Northern Lights and, of course, Derry Girls. But he knows he will always be known as Keith Duffy's son.

He said: "When Derry Girls came out, that is what people knew me for for a few months. However, predominantly, I am always going to be known as his son.

"Just look at Eve Hewson and Bono. She is doing amazing things globally and she is still Bono’s daughter.

"There is no point running away from it, you just have to embrace it. I am very proud to be his dad so it is all good with me."
