Entertainer Jennifer Garner and her family faced a difficult farewell days before Thanksgiving. After many years of happiness, Garner and her kids had to say goodbye to their dog, a golden retriever named Birdie.
Although the loss of Birdie was heartbreaking, Garner focused on all the happiness the dog had brought into their lives over the years.
Garner shared that Birdie “knew just how to give people what they needed.” The dog “lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl,” she added.
Jennifer Garner’s Family Was by Birdie’s Side as She Passed
On November 27, Garner shared a beautiful tribute to the family’s dog, Birdie, via her Instagram page. She noted, “It seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing.”
Garner shared, “Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal).”
She continued, “We were surprised to learn that, not only was she very ill, she was at the end of her life.”
The entertainer noted that their veterinarian told them that dogs would often hold on until a special loved one returns home from college before passing. Garner revealed that they believe Birdie did just that.
In August, Page Six shared that Garner’s oldest daughter with Ben Affleck, Violet Affleck, was beginning her freshman year at Yale University. The teen returned home in time to say goodbye to Birdie.
With Violet home with the rest of her family, Garner explained they “could pet [Birdie’s] soft ears together and thank her for being the world’s best dog.”
Garner described many of Birdie’s favorite activities and included some fun photos and videos in her Instagram post.
