It’s truly over. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce on Monday, January 6, more than four months after she filed for a dissolution of their marriage on August 20, 2024, In Touch can confirm. TMZ was the first to report the news.
Ben, 52, and Jennifer, 55, walked away with a clean slate as they each will keep the financial earnings from their various projects during their marriage. The Air actor kept his role and share in the production company Artists Equity, which he cofounded in November 2022 with best friend and colleague Matt Damon.
Furthermore, Jennifer and Ben reached a confidential agreement on their $61 million Beverly Hills home that is currently on the market.
The settlement already was seemingly underway as the duo began to unload joint property after April 26, 2024 — the date J. Lo, 55, stated the pair separated in her divorce filing with the Los Angeles Superior Court. The Hustlers star also filed pro per, meaning without an attorney, in her divorce.
First to go was the former couple’s Beverly Hills mansion, which they purchased together in May 2023 for $60 million. Ben, 52, moved out as their split loomed, In Touch exclusively reported on May 15, 2024.
The pair had real estate broker Santiago Arana from The Agency privately showing the home after the Argo star decamped for a $100,000 rental house in Brentwood, California, which he was photographed leaving for the first time on May 16. Ultimately, their mansion was listed for sale publicly on July 11, 2024, for $68 million after Jennifer and Ben put in custom renovations while still a couple.
The Gone Girl star already found his landing pad post-split, purchasing a $20 million bachelor pad in Pacific Palisades California, on his own. Ben closed escrow on the home on July 24, 2024, which fell on Jennifer’s 55th birthday.
“Ben left the filing and the divorce in Jen’s hands, almost like a parting gift,” a source exclusively told In Touch on August 21, 2024. “He really doesn’t care and gave up long ago.”
The timing of Jennifer’s divorce filing fell two years to the date from the couple’s lavish August 20, 2022, wedding at Ben’s estate in Georgia. The pair initially eloped in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, four months after the actor proposed to the “On the Floor” singer.
Ben and Jennifer fell for each other in 2002 while filming the movie Gigli. They were set to marry in a splashy Santa Barbara, California, wedding in September 2003, but called it off with just days to go, citing intense media scrutiny. The pair broke up what seemed to be for good in January 2004.
The Last Duel star went on to marry his Elektra costar, Jennifer Garner, in June 2005. They split in 2015, and their divorce was finalized three years later. Ben and Jen share three children: Violet, Fin and Samuel.
J. Lo wasted no time moving on from Ben, as she married singer Marc Anthony in July 2004, seven months after splitting from the Oscar winner. The duo welcomed twins Emme and Max in 2008, but broke up three years later, finalizing their divorce in 2014.
There had been plenty of signs Ben and Jennifer’s marriage was in trouble prior to their separation in April.
Less than two months prior, J. Lo released a documentary on Prime Video called The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which was about their love through two decades. In it, the pair discussed their completely different ways of handling the spotlight.
“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.’ Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of, like, you’re going to marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t want the water.’ We’re trying to learn to compromise,” the Ben admitted.
Jennifer confessed about the documentary, “I don’t think [Ben] is very comfortable with me doing this, [but] he doesn’t want to stop me.
