The Lil WeezyAna Festival in New Orleans, hosted by Lil Wayne, was a needed feel-good moment in 2024, as he reunited the Hot Boys and the Big Tymers. However, one of his closest collaborators was noticeably absent, and Jermaine Dupri made note of it.
The So So Def founder had a ball watching the festival via live stream on Saturday evening (Nov. 2). “This is amazing !! Southern HipHop at its best,” he wrote on X. In his next tweet, he name-dropped Drake: “I cant believe drake missed that, couldn’t have been me.” After receiving some backlash, he added “Pardon me for getting excited about the amazing show they just had,ima HipHop ni**a and this was a moment.”
Where was the 6 God? He attended the Toronto Raptors home game against the Sacramento Kings, where the Raptors retired Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey. VC mentioned the Raptors’ global ambassador in his speech, recalling a time when he threw his armband into the crowd after a game and a young Drizzy was the lucky fan who caught it.
Drake also took the opportunity to be petty toward DeMar DeRozan, a member of the Sacramento Kings, former Toronto Raptors star, and his former friend. DeRozan joined Kendrick Lamar on The Pop Out stage to dance to “Not Like Us” in June and appeared in the music video in July.
“If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself,” he said during an interview. At another point in the evening, he highlighted how special it was to celebrate Vince Carter, but admitted DeRozan’s presence soured it a bit: “Unfortunately, we’re playing this goof [DeRozan] tonight, but it is what it is.”
The six-time All-Star responded to the Toronto superstar’s jabs in a postgame press conference. “Well he gon’ have a long way to climb to take it down, so tell him good luck,” DeRozan said before exiting the podium. He doubled down with an Instagram story featuring a clip from the 1995 film Friday, where Smokey (Chris Tucker) says “Man, I got mind control over Deebo. He be like ‘Shut the f**k up.’ I be quiet. But when he leave, I be talkin’ again.”
