Jessica Simpson‘s marriage to Eric Johnson has been the subject of rumors all year, but there seems to be clues that indicate they are taking time apart. The 44-year-old singer’s Instagram post on Nov. 12 included a caption about “an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.” Those cryptic words raised the red flags about her personal life and left fans needing to know what exactly was going on with Johnson.
The 45-year-old retired athlete was spotted in Los Angeles on the same day as Simpson’s social media post without his wedding band on, according to People. A source offered more insight into what was going on with their relationship, divulging, “She’s working on music and splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville. Eric spends all of his time in L.A., where the kids go to school. Jess and Eric very much live separate lives.”

The trouble may have been brewing for quite some time, too. Simpson put her Hidden Hills estate on the market in September 2023 for $22 million. Many fans thought it was because of her desire to spend more time in Nashville for her music, but there might be more to it. “Being in Nashville, even my kids are like, ‘You laugh the whole time. You’re so happy,’ ” she told E! News in August 2023. “It’s because I’m not on guard. I’m with a lot of like-minded people. It’s not about the celebrities—it’s really about the music and the heart and the conversation.”
According to In Touch Weekly, she pulled the residence off the market on Aug. 2 because there were no buyers after a year up for sale. Still, people are wondering what the heck is going on, but don’t ask Simpson’s younger sister Ashlee Simpson-Ross to spill the tea. She gave a firm “no” to TMZ on Monday, Nov. 11 when she was asked if she knew anything about her sibling’s marriage. The media outlet’s sources also claimed that a representative for the “Take My Breath Away” singer had already visited two divorce lawyers inquiring about their services late last month. She reportedly has not followed up with either lawyer personally, nor has she retained their services.
Simpson and Johnson first met in 2010 and quickly got engaged within six months of meeting. They welcomed daughter Maxwell, 12, and son Ace, 11, before walking down the aisle in 2014. In 2019, daughter Birdie Mae arrived and completed their family of five. Neither Simpson nor Johnson have commented publicly about any issues in their marriage.
