Joe Alwyn Says He's Moved On From His Relationship With Taylor Swift

Actor Joe Alwyn, who dated Taylor Swift from 2016 to 2023, told The Guardian that he’s moved on from that relationship.

In the interview, which was published on Sunday, Alwyn said that he’s moved past his time with Swift — and suggested that others should do the same.

“That’s something for other people to do,” he said. “We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life. So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.”

Although Swift and Alwyn kept their relationship private, it’s speculated that the pop star has written multiple songs about their time together, as well as their breakup. The two also worked together on two of Swift’s albums: 2020’s “Folklore” and “Evermore,” with his contributions on the former earning him a Grammy when it won Album of the Year in 2021.

In June last year, Alwyn told The Times of London that he felt good about his split with Swift.

“As everyone knows, we together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private,” he said. “It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now. And, look, this is also a little over a year ago now and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.”

In regard to his personal life overshadowing his professional one, Alwyn told The Guardian that he tries to “focus on controlling what I can control.”

“And, right from the beginning, tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course,” he said. “So noise outside of that, I think I’ve done what lots of people who find themselves in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it. If you don’t, and if you let all of that other stuff in, and if it starts to affect you and your behavior, you’re living from the outside in. And then you’re pretty fucked.”

He added that he has “great family and friends” and “real things” in his life that keep him “tethered to the ground.”

Swift, who is now dating Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce, is a lot more open with her relationship nowadays.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” Swift told Time in December 2023. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
