COMEDIAN Joe Lycett’s baby news came like a bolt from the blue last month and now the 36-year-old has shared an update, describing fatherhood as a ‘total delight.’
The TV star shocked his fans and followers, when he announced he’d welcomed his first child with his mystery girlfriend, as many suspected one of his colourful pranks.
But discussing his son in his newsletter, the TV personality thanked his fans for their support and said that being a dad is ‘a total delight.’
He wrote: 'I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who has been so lovely about my news (you may have seen on instagram or in the press that I have just welcomed a son).... I’m finding fatherhood to be a total delight.'
The Birmingham-born comedian has become known for his news grabbing pranks, like when he changed his name to Hugo Boss back in 2020, but Lycett addressed the suspicions, admitting that he has been known to ‘cry wolf.’
He said: And to confirm, he’s defo not a stunt (although I appreciate I’ve cried wolf enough that might not be convincing) and as promised I will be appearing on the _Parenting Hell_podcast in the near future.'
Describing himself as pansexual, the funnyman has always been discreet about his love life, having only mentioned that he had a girlfriend once on his show, Late Night Lycett, with no more details about the relationship.
But then in October, he told how he’d become a father for the first time as he shared a post thanking the Birmingham Women’s Hospital. He said:
“An appreciation post from me for the extraordinary @bham_womens hospital.
“My first encounter with them was years ago when they looked after a pal of mine through surgery, and then most recently when they masterfully welcomed a little boy into the world, who happens to be my son.
“The care and compassion his mum and he received was exceptional; from the antenatal classes, incredible midwives, consultants, doctors, nurses and the ongoing care in the community. We also loved their baked potatoes.
“Birmingham is so lucky to have them and I will be forever grateful for everything they’ve done.”
Indeed just days before the big reveal, Joe opened up a little more about his girlfriend, but gave her a fake name to protect her identity.
Speaking on Bimini Bon-Boulash’s podcast The Pieces, he revealed: “So I’ve got Winston the cat, and my partner Denise.
"And, um, she’s not called Denise, but I don’t talk about her, because she has a job that she can’t be in the public eye.
“I call her Denise because she hates the name Denise, so, uh, I live with Denise.”
Having been a regular on TV panel shows, including 8 out of 10 cats and Never mind the Buzzcocks, Joe has hoted his own show since 2023 called Late Night Lycett.
It celebrates Birmingham’s diversity, with Joe being joined by local heroes, LGBTQ+ icons and stars from the worlds of comedy, TV, film and music.
In the first series guests including Dame Joan Collins, Richard E Grant and David Harewood
