Joe Rogan Reveals New Injury After Hunting Issue

Joe Rogan has revealed details about a skiing accident that led to a significant injury and ultimately made him leave the sport for good and about the toll hunting has taken on his body.

The podcast host and comedian shared the story during an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience published on December 12 featuring guest Bert Sorin, an athlete and hunter. Rogan reflected on his history of knee injuries and recounted the skiing mishap that marked his final attempt at the sport.

According to Rogan, the incident occurred when a woman who lacked skiing experience unexpectedly slid into his path on a trail. To avoid colliding with her, he veered off course and wiped out, resulting in what doctors later diagnosed as an "insufficiency fracture."

An insufficiency fracture is a type of bone injury that occurs when the bone cannot withstand normal stress due to underlying weakness.

Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Rogan for comment on Thursday.

"The last time I skied, the last and final time I ever skied, this lady didn't know how to ski and she slid into the trail and I had to try to not wipe out—not hit her, rather, and I wiped out and I got what's called the insufficiency fracture," he explained.

"So it's the bone fractured at the top of my shin, my fibula, or my tibia rather, right where the cartilage is. And so yeah, that created quite a bit of pain."

Also speaking about his knee during the episode, Rogan said: "I twisted it crossing slippery ground in September and I've had a lot of problems with it.

"I've had two knee surgeries, I had my ACL reconstructed, I had a meniscus piece removed."

This isn't the only time that Rogan has injured his knee, as he said he twisted it when he was about to get on stage, resulting in him being in pain during his comedy set.

Rogan's injuries are not limited to his skiing and day-to-day activities, but extend to the physical preparation he undergoes for elk bow hunting. During a December 5 episode of his podcast, Rogan discussed the toll that hunting takes on his body while chatting with guest Derek, a fitness educator behind the More Plates, More Dates website.

Rogan, who is a well-known fan of elk bow hunting said it was "f****** hard and that's literally why I like it," but he did sustain some serious injuries preparing for a hunt once.

"The really intensive part, though, is the preparation for it (...) I actually f***** my body up getting ready for this one," Rogan said, describing how he increases his cardio workouts and practices his archery relentlessly.

He added that shooting an 84-pound bow, around a hundred times a day, five or six times a week, led to him "developing severe pain in my lower back on my right side that led to sciatica."

"And I was also developing some severe neck pain on my right side (...) it was just getting locked up painful and stiff and sore and hurt even when I walk," Rogan said, but added that he kept training through the pain for hours at a time.

"I just developed a real problem to the point where, like, when I was the last trip when I was going up hills, my, my hips were getting numb, my glutes weren't firing, I was getting sciatic pain."

After the trip, Rogan committed to addressing the damage. He underwent stem cell shots, intense stretching, foam rolling, and a combination of sauna and cold plunge sessions to aid his recovery.

He added: "I was doing a lot of rolling in the sauna, cold plunge, and sauna stretching. It was getting a little better slowly, but it was brutal."
