Joe Rogan has shared details of an interaction he once had with Nick Nolte, branding it "strange" because the actor knew his name.
During a recent episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the broadcaster welcomed guest Josh Brolin, who has appeared alongside veteran screen star Nolte in the movies Nightwatch and Gangster Squad.
As Rogan and Brolin discussed a range of subjects, the host mentioned his knowledge of Nolte thanks to his role on 1990s sitcom NewsRadio, which featured the likes of Phil Hartman, Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, Jon Lovitz, and Andy Dick.
"Nick used to date Vicki Lewis, who was on NewsRadio with me," Rogan told a surprised Brolin, who described Lewis as "super talented" and a "firebrand."
"Nick used to hang around the set, and it was always so weird to me to be talking to Nick Nolte. It was so strange," Rogan went on, before sharing an anecdote of when he made a trip to an electronics store at the time he was on the show.
"I remember one time I went to Fry's Electronics," he said. "I used to make my own computers, because I was, like, really into computer games. So I [built] my own computers.
"So I'm there, like, looking at motherships, and I see this f****** old guy with his glasses on, and I go, 'Nick!' He goes, 'Oh, hey, Joe! How are you, man? Do you know anything about these things?'
"I was talking to him about, like, computer stuff. I just couldn't believe he knows my name. He remembered me."
When Brolin said that Nolte "saved my life at 25," Rogan interjected by bringing up a 2011 martial arts movie starring Nolte, Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton.
"Bro, there's a terrible movie called Warrior," Rogan told his guest. "That movie sucks, but he is f****** incredible in it.
"His one scene where it breaks down—you know, he's the dad—it's so f****** good. It's so good, that one scene is worth sitting through the entire preposterous movie."
When Brolin asked Rogan why he disliked the film so much, the former Fear Factor host responded: "Because it's fake. You can't fight, like, two days in a row."
The conversation then veered into discussing Mike Tyson's much-hyped boxing bout with Jake Paul, which took place on November 15.
Boxing legend Tyson, 58, lost by unanimous decision to YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul, 27. The event, which took place in Arlington, Texas, was livestreamed on Netflix, with 60 million households tuning in to watch the match.
Rogan told Brolin: "I'm happy Mike got the money, and I'm happy that he didn't get hurt. That was my fear—that it was gonna be a real fight, and he was gonna get hurt."
"I love that dude, and he was a larger-than-life figure in my childhood," Rogan continued of Tyson. "When I was a kid, when he was a champ, it was like—people don't understand what a champ he was."
Rogan and Brolin also discussed the fees both men received for the boxing match, with the host commenting: "It's amazing they got paid so much money."
Fortune reported that Paul received $40 million for the fight, while Tyson received $20 million.
