Joey Bada$$ And DeeKnows, Former Pro Era Member, Get Into Scuffle At NYC Store

It has yet to be made clear what caused the physical altercation.

Joey Bada$$ and ex-Pro Era member, DeeKnows, unfortunately came to physical blows in an NYC store on Monday (Dec. 23).

In footage caught by an unnamed apparel store, the former friends could be seen having an intense discussion before scuffling inside the establishment.

As it has not been made known what caused the fight, the incident reportedly took place on the anniversary of the late Pro Era member Capital STEEZ’s, who died on Dec. 23, 2012.

Capital STEEZ, neé Courtney Dewar Jr., reportedly leaped from the roof of Cinematic Music Group headquarters in Manhattan on Dec. 23, 2012. Ahead of his tragic death, STEEZ posted the cryptic message: “The end” on X (formerly Twitter).

Since then, Pro Era had created STEEZ DAY—an annual event to commemorate the late rapper and help financially support his family.

On Joey’s 2022 song “Survivors Guilt,” he opened up about the impact STEEZ ‘s death had on him. “STEEZY told me get ’em so I got em/ Now my ni**a gone, he will never be forgotten,” he raps. “Ever since he left I’ve just been struggling without him.”

Aside from the disheartening Pro Era drama, Joey Bada$$ recently celebrated his Impact Mentorship program, an initiative that provides men of color with mentors in their respective fields. On Dec. 12, Joey held a dinner in New York City to celebrate the first year of his “greatest creation to date.”

During the dinner at Tatiana NYC, the Power actor said, “Lately I’ve been getting asked the question a lot, ‘Why start a mentorship program?’ The answer is quite simple to me: necessity. We need programs like this. People sleep on the fact how important it is, especially communities of color to have proper representation.”

He added, “I’ve been navigating this industry for the last 12 years of my life. Every room, every table I come into, the circumstances are the same; not enough people who look like me in positions of leadership. So this is my small contribution to the world of how I can make a difference and make a change.”

“Making music is cool. Having platinum records is cool. Starring TV shows and all of that is cool. But this is my greatest creation to date,” he concluded with a toast.
