John Legend verbally lashed out at Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump‘s “racist” rhetoric concerning immigarants during a recent interview.

During a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Legend blasted prior remarks made by Trump during ABC’s presidential debate.

During the debate, the former United States President echoed baseless claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Oh., have been eating domesticated pets in an attempt to villianize immigrants, a recurring trend in his campaign.

Legend, who is a Springfield native, expressed his intolerance for Trump’s views on immigration, deeming his rhetoric as a guise to cover up the alleged racist overtones of his Presidential run.

“When he talks about immigration, he’s talking about Black and brown people coming from the global South and he says they are f**king up our gene pool,” the Grammy Award winner told Sharpe of Trump.

“They are poisoning the blood of America. So what he’s saying is, the ideal version of America is a white America, and anytime brown people infiltrate America they’re messing up the blood of America.”

Legend continued attacking Trump’s train of thought regarding patriotism and the purification of America, including remarks that immigrants are “messing up the gene pool” within the country.

“That takes us back to Hitler,” the 45-year-old continued. “That takes us back to Eugenics. That takes us back to folks who believe there’s a genetic hierarchy that’s racially determined. And I just can’t imagine, it couldn’t be me. A Black man voting for somebody who believes so deeply that Black men are inferior to him because we’re Black.”

Legend has been unafraid to voice his opinion on sociopolitical matters throughout his career, as the crooner has supported Presidential candidates, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, during their respective campaigns. This election cycle, the hitmaker has publicly endorsed current Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s chief opponent for office.
