John Lennon’s ‘naked drunken’ antics even left Cher struggling to control him

John Lennon is usually remembered for his musical abilities as a member of The Beatles but Cher has slightly different memories.

The Believe hitmaker has recalled a drunken night with the late star, during a wild party at the Playboy Manson in 1974.

Cher, 78, had dinner with Lennon and friend Harry Nilsson when the Beatle proposed they stopped by Hugh Hefner’s mansion for a movie night.

In her new autobiography, Cher: The Memoir, Part One, she revealed Lennon was ‘dying’ to see the famed Playboy Mansion where she was a regular guest.

However, on the journey over the Burlesque star quickly realised her companions were ‘drunker than I’d thought’.

Upon arrival, the tipsy pair headed to the swimming pool’s Grotto where they stripped naked and jumped in.

‘Giggling and falling over each other, John and Harry followed me out into the grounds,’ Cher wrote in an extract shared by the DailyMail.

She continued: ‘Sitting them down inside the infamous Grotto – it was like a huge cave that one end of the swimming pool went into – I went to find a drink and when I came back they were standing in the middle of the Grotto naked but still in the water, thank God.’

Icon that she is, Cher declared they were not a ‘pretty’ sight — prompting them to threaten to leave the water.

‘I was trying not to laugh, but it was impossible not to as they threatened to wander around the mansion naked. It took me ages to get them back in their clothes. It was like herding drunks,’ she added.

According to the Strong Enough singer, the mansion was ‘notorious for drunken orgies’ but the Sunday night movie tradition was far less rowdy.

Cher was long-time friends with the late Playboy founder with her son Chaz once being gifted a lion statue by Hefner.

Still the Queen of Pop, Cher is reportedly being eyed for a possible Glastonbury slot entering ‘meaningful talks’ ahead of 2025’s festival.

‘Cher is practically the legend of all pop music legends. She would be incredible.

‘It’s been a long time coming but she is finally in meaningful talks with Glastonbury about playing the legend’s slot,’ a source told The Sun.

This comes after she duetted with a Glastonbury headliner earlier this year, performing with Dua Lipa at this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Addressing the crowd, the If I Could Turn Back Time legend said: ‘My life has just been a rollercoaster, but one thing I’ve never done, I never give up.

‘I’m talking to the women – OK, you guys are on your own – we’ve been down and out, we keep striving and we keep building and we are somebody.’

Cher: The Memoir, Part One will be released on 19 November.
