According to a report by Oliver Darcy for Status, the briefing held by Kutler was "emotional" after workers found out the series was over through the media.
"Staffers expressed frustration and disbelief, outraged that they had learned of their show's fate from reports in the press rather than leadership," the journalist claimed about the 30-minute meeting.
Within minutes of the gathering, the big-wig revealed that "the entire staff had been laid off." However, Kutler assured them they would receive severance through April.
"So, to make this explicitly clear, we are being terminated currently with the option to apply within the company, right?" one person allegedly asked, to which Kutler confirmed.
Per the reporter, the new leader said she was "incredibly disappointed that this happened in this way."
Kutler also emphasized how "Donald Trump was not a factor" in the shake-up at the network.
MSNBC decided to cancel Reid's show and remove Alex Wagner from her 9 p.m. weeknight slot after Rachel Maddow shifted from hosting her show once a week to nightly.
The channel is currently trying to salvage ratings as they've dwindled significantly in the past year.
According to a report from the market research firm Kagan, MSNBC is on track to shed approximately 10.5 percent of its subscribers between the end of 2023 and the end of 2025.
One person who's thrilled with the changes at the Democratic-leaning company is the current commander-in-chief.
"Lowlife Chairman of 'Concast,' Brian Roberts, the owner of Ratings Challenged NBC and MSDNC, has finally gotten the nerve up to fire one of the least talented people in television, the mentally obnoxious racist, Joy Reid. Based on her ratings, which were virtually non-existent, she should have been 'canned' long ago, along with everyone else who works there," Trump ranted in a Sunday, February 23, Truth Social update.
"Also thrown out was Alex Wagner, the sub on the seriously failing Rachel Maddow show. Rachel rarely shows up because she knows there's nobody watching and she also knows that she's got less television persona than virtually anyone on television except, perhaps, Joy Reid," he continued.
Reid herself responded to the news in a post on Bluesky. "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets. So very proud of The ReidOut team, who are truly family and all of our supporters and friends. See you tomorrow night at 7, one more time," she wrote.
