Justin Baldoni Accuses Ryan Reynolds Of 'Berating' Him For 'Fat-Shaming' Blake Lively! Um... Good?

A man defending his wife… who would’ve thought?!

Justin Baldoni‘s HUGE lawsuit against The New York Times isn’t just calling out Blake Lively. He’s complaining about the unprofessional behavior of her husband Ryan Reynolds, too! In the filings Tuesday evening, the director took a shot at the Deadpool star for “berating” him in a very “aggressive” manner. Over what, exactly? Justin “fat-shaming” his wife! Um… Aren’t we fine with him getting aggressive about that??

We previously reported how Blake claimed the Jane The Virgin actor poked around behind her back and made comments about her weight. She also said he lost it when guys on the internet thought she looked “frumpy” — despite this being right after she had just given birth! Hell, she even claimed he tried to send her to a weight loss specialist!

So what does Justin say? Well, he says Ryan brought the issue right to him, getting in his face about it. He says this happened at Blake and Ryan’s Tribeca penthouse during production. The Deadpool star, he complained, got “aggressive” with him, “accusing him of ‘fat shaming'” Blake!

Um… That’s what we’d want our partner to do if someone was talking about our weight in an inappropriate way. (Which is just about any way tbh!) Was Ryan was being a good husband and sticking up for his wife?? Kinda sounds like it.

After the confrontation, Justin claims in the suit that he “continued to bend to [Lively’s] will” to “rebuild rapport”. Again… sounds good, no?

Well, maybe not. See, Justin says the whole “fat shaming” thing was overblown. He claims what happened is that he asked his personal trainer — who also worked with Blake — what she weighed. But it wasn’t about shaming! He explains he suffers from a repeated back issue, a bulging disc — and there’s a scene where his character Ryle is supposed to lift Lily. He claims he only asked for an estimate of Blake’s weight “to ensure he could safely perform the lift without injury.”

It was the question to the trainer that somehow made its way back to Blake and therefore to Ryan. The legal docs state:

“The confrontation that followed was so aggressive that Baldoni felt compelled to offer repeated apologies, despite his question being entirely reasonable and made in good faith.

Blake was so upset about the perceived body shaming, Justin notes, she “refused to perform the lift scene, even though it had already been rehearsed with a stunt double.” Hmm.

This certainly doesn’t clarify every instance of body talk Blake describes in her complaint. But that one does make sense from his perspective — if he’s being sincere.
