All eyes were on Justin Bieber as he stepped out in New York City earlier this week - and his tattoos have got everybody talking.

During a trip to Wall Street Bath Spa, the 30-year-old, who has sparked concern among fans in recent days, sported a trendy butter yellow hoodie which he wore with the zip half-fastened. As a result, fans caught a glimpse of Justin's array of tattoos, including an angel and demon inking which has a deeper meaning behind it.

Keith Scott ‘Bang Bang’ McCurdy, the tattoo artist behind the piece, has previously spoken about the meaning of the design and revealed that it represents both “the light and dark”. Speaking to E! News in 2017, he explained: “We added two angels, one on each side.”

He added: “Below each one, they're dominating the evil. Whenever I do an epic piece, there needs to be the positive and negative. There needs to be a balance... visually there needs to be contrast.”

The tattoo artist continued: “Below each of the angels, there is a demon that needs to be defeated. It's symbolic of Gothic art and the struggle between the light and dark, the good and the evil, Yin and Yang.”

But while the angel and demon piece may be attracting a lot of attention, they’re not the Baby singer’s only tattoos. In fact, Justin reportedly has more than 40 tattoos over his body, including some on his torso, neck and arms.

Discussing his love of tattoos, Justin was bursting with pride after turning his body into “a canvas” in 2018. In an Instagram post, he said: “If tattooed didn’t hurt everyone would have them. Well maybe not very one!!Over a hundred hours of art work on my body and I wouldn’t take back a single one.. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ART AND IVE MADE my body a canvas and it’s SO MUCH FUN.”

To mark his chart-topping career, the musician has a string of designs to mark his success in the music industry. Among those is the title of his album, Purpose, which is tattooed above his belly button. He also had the title of his debut album, Believe, inked on his forearm.

But besides documenting his chart success, many of his other designs have more personal meanings. In particular, Justin has a series of animal themed tattoos, such as a bear, lion and bird.

“The bear, which I got in New Zealand, represents rest,” he told British Vogue. “As tough and resilient as a bear is, it always hibernates, which is so important. We as humans go, go, and go without resting and it can leave us exhausted and drained.”

The Anyone hitmaker also revealed how the lion represents being bold and courageous. Similarly, a bird on his neck is a reminder to give his all.

Elsewhere, Justin’s other tattoos include a cross in the middle of his chest to represent his faith. He also has a classic rose design on his neck to reflect the journey he’s been on and to remind him that nothing is perfect.

“The rose on my neck from Dr Woo reminds me that even though I’m flawed, beauty shines even through our rough edges,” he told the publication.

Another common theme among Justin’s tattoos are letters and Roman numerals, and he has the number 1975 written above above his collarbone - possibly to represent the birth year of his parents. He also has ‘LL’ on his upper inner arm - something he called “really cool”.

“It stands from when my head’s low to lift it up. Just to never keep your head low and just to always look for the better days,” he told GQ. And discussing an ‘X’ on his arm he revealed how he was for the “unknown.”

Justin and his wife Hailey Bieber, who have been hit by rumours that their relationship is on the rocks, even have matching tattoos. To mark Justin’s single Peaches reaching the number one spot in 2021, the pair got matching peach designs - with Justin opting for a neck placement and Hailey a placement on her arm.
