Justin Bieber has unfollowed his former mentor and close friend Usher on Instagram, following a pattern of distancing himself from other key figures in his life, including his former manager, Scooter Braun, and other close associates.
Neither Bieber nor Usher have publicly addressed the reasons behind these actions, leaving fans to speculate about the state of their relationship.
One user on X, formerly Twitter, commented: "Justin unfollowed/blocked Scooter Braun, Allison Kaye, Ryan Good, and now Usher. We don’t know the full story, but we know they mistreated & exploited him, failing to protect him. But God saved him. May Justin continue to find light & healing away from the darkness of Hollywood."
Another user added: "Something fishy’s going on here because they were like father and son." A third penned: "Damn. I have a feeling something big is cooking up. Maybe an incoming lawsuit?" A fourth said in response to a comment about the five other people he unfollowed: "I wonder if him becoming a father has made him revaluate his childhood and how the adults in his life were exploiting him as a young child."

A seventh penned: "Justin Bieber just unfollowed usher. The same kid who RAN up to him when he first got to LA at 12 years old, and told him he was his biggest fan. the same kid who begged usher to listen to him sing and to give him a chance. my heart is broken for him. that was family.
And an eighth wrote: "I don’t pay much attention to who follows who, but this is interesting. Justin Bieber unfollowed his long term manager Scooter Braun… and now Usher. I have a feeling Justin Bieber is going to be making some huge splashes soon."
These actions come after speculation about the relationship between Justin and Usher. Usher played a key role in Justin’s rise to fame, with their bond beginning when Justin was just 15. Usher helped him land his first major break, as seen in the music video for Justin's debut song, One Time. The two shared a close mentor-mentee relationship, with Usher even helping to discover Justin’s talent and introducing him to industry insiders.
In a 2011 interview, Usher revealed how Justin auditioned in front of him, his wife at the time, Tameka Foster, and record producer L.A. Reid’s ex-wife, Perri "Pebbles" Reid, who insisted that Usher meet the young talent after seeing a video of him singing.
However, despite their close friendship, Justin's early career was tumultuous, with rumors that he was "thrown to the wolves" as he partied with Sean " Diddy " Combs during his teen years. The pair’s friendship raised concerns among fans after Combs was arrested in September 2024 on charges related to sex trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. A resurfaced 2011 interview has further fuelled worries, as it shows Diddy being overly protective of what they did together, leaving fans to wonder about the true nature of their friendship.
With all these recent developments, fans are left questioning what has caused Bieber to sever ties with some of the most important figures in his life.
