Karen Huger’s Sentencing Date Delayed: What We Know

3 hours ago 1

The season finale of the Real Housewives of Potomac showed Karen Huger finally stepping into the courtroom for her DUI trial. In March 2024, the Grande Dame was involved in a motor vehicle accident. She was found guilty of five out of six charges, including the lead charge of driving under the influence (DUI). For the entire season, Karen has kept quiet, waiting for her day in court. But the body camera evidence was too much to overcome. She was scheduled to be sentenced in January 2025, but the date has come and gone. So when will she be facing justice?

Karen Huger’s sentencing date has been moved

During her trial, the jury heard about Karen striking the median while behind the wheel of her 2017 Maserati. She also hit a street sign before crashing into a tree. At the time of the incident, Karen was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. The Real Housewives of Potomac star was charged with driving under the influence, negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, endangering property, life, and person, and various other counts.

The Grand Dame is trying her best to get a last-minute delay in her DUI sentencing case. According to In Touch, Karen fired her legal team just days before she was due back in court. Karen finally had a small win as she succeeded in getting her sentencing date pushed back as her new legal team scrambled to get caught up. The Bravoleb asked for time to finish her rehab stint and for her new attorneys to get brought up to speed. According to the outlet, the judge set a new date of February 26 for the 61-year-old to find out the consequences of her actions.

Karen Huger is hoping for a good outcome

The new motion was filed on January 9 by Karen’s new legal team, David A. Martella and Barry Helfand. The duo reported, “Ms. Huger is seeking to have the benefit of counsel’s 30 years of experience handling cases of this kind, in the Maryland Courts, and in fashioning recommendations that State and the Court may find acceptable to address the community’s interests in accountability, rehabilitation, supervision, and deterrence.” According to Karen’s new legal team they last spoke to her right before “entering an out-of-state program that is appropriate for this case.”

Karen has not permitted her lawyers to disclose the nature of the program. The motion read, “The rules of the program severely limit the counsel’s ability to communicate with Ms. Huger and prepare for sentencing. [Karen] will be returning from that program on January 28, 2025, the day before the scheduled sentencing.”

Karen Huger finally speaks out

Due to this the new team claimed they needed to be brought up to date about the “nature of the case, the procedural history, the evidence that was presented at trial, and the client’s personal and professional history. Additional time would allow counsel to provide the Court with a meaningful and useful memorandum.” The Real Housewives of Potomac star’s new team requested the extension to February 14, Valentine’s Day, to “file a memorandum regarding what kind of sentence Karen believes she deserves.” But it is doubtful the judge will show her any love on sentencing day.

For the most part, the mother of two has kept to herself. After her guilty verdict, her representation at the time, A. Scott Bolden spoke with People about the outcome of the two-day trial. He noted, “Although we are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, we, of course, respect their decision. And appreciate their time hearing our case.” Karen’s rep, Ryan Tresdale, told fans, “Karen made the important decision to enter a private recovery program.” And “so was unable to attend the reunion taping today. She was fully supported in this choice. We stand behind Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey. And are proud of her for taking such a significant step forward in her personal growth.” Now, fans must wait until February to see what comes of the Grande Dame.

The Real Housewives of Potomac is available to stream on Peacock.
