Kate Cassidy's team 'approached' journalist for interview back in December three months after Liam's death

Last night Kate Cassidy opened up publicly for the first time following the death of boyfriend Liam Payne.

On October 16, singer Liam tragically fell to his death from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room, causing multiple traumas leading to an "internal and external haemorrhage".

After Liam's passing, Kate, 25, kept a low profile but now has taken part in an exclusive interview with journalist Clemmie Moodie who appeared on ITV's This Morning today to talk about the interview.

During her chat with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, she revealed that Kate's team had actually reached out to her back in December, three month after Liam's death.

She said: "Her team approached me in December and said, 'She is thinking about doing this, are you interested?' I said, 'Of course.'

"She wanted to pay tribute to Liam and share and revel in their love and their joy and their love story. There are a lot of mistruths out there which she wanted to clarify. There are a lot of internet rumours, there are a lot of unkind things being said. She has a right to put those to bed and explain in her words what actually happened."

However, fans took to social media to raise questions as one said: "I dunno, maybe it's just me but i find it weird that within 8 weeks of Liam Payne dying, his girlfriends 'team' were putting out feelers for a tell all interview. Also that she was 'most emotional' when talking about the dog. #ThisMorning #KateCassidy."

Another said: “A genuine love would keep their grief private. #thismorning."

Earlier in the interview, Clemmie was asked what it was like to interview Kate and she revealed that she was "shy and very image conscious".

She added: "She was lovely, very sweet, she was very nervous," she said. "She didn't want to upset anyone, she was so scared to get something wrong. Grief does funny things to people.

Liam Payne and Kate Cassidy adopted a dog before his death.

"She had her life mapped out and that's gone so she didn't really know what she was thinking. It was a strange, hard interview."

Kate and Liam had been dating for two years and had just moved into a new home together in Florida at the time of his passing.

The pair also shared a dog Nala, who they adopted just a few months prior.
