Kate Middleton is taking her return to work schedule in stride. After undergoing a lengthy health battle that left her sidelined for the majority of the year, the Princess of Wales is looking as strong and regal as ever as she slowly takes on more royal duties. Now, after back-to-back outings in honour of Remembrance Day, Middleton has quelled any doubts about her well-being by revealing plans for her next public appearance.
In a surprise announcement made by Kensington Palace, Middleton will take on her biggest task since her return by hosting the monarch’s annual carol service at Westminster Abbey in London on Friday, Dec. 6. The reoccurring event, titled Together at Christmas, will see Middleton and her husband, Prince William, lead a televised festive concert for the fourth year in a row.
It’s not yet confirmed if their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, will be in attendance like they have at previous iterations. Irrespective of whether she has her family by her side, the event is said to be an emotional affair for the former Duchess of Cambridge.
As revealed by Prince William during his recent solo outing in South Africa, 2024 has been an atypically “brutal” year for her. With the holiday season offering a chance to reflect and pause, it’s poignant for Middleton to mark the end of this difficult period in such a hopeful setting.
As per the palace, the event will reflect “how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives.” This was a sentiment she echoed when confirming her successful chemotherapy treatment.
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” she said at the time. “This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved.”
