Princess Kate Middleton will soon be ringing in her 43rd birthday and a source says Prince William and their children are pulling out all the stops to make it as special and family-oriented as possible.
“Kate doesn’t want anything extravagant. What makes her happy these days are the little things, the quality time at home with William and the kids, that’s all she wants for her birthday,” an insider tells In Touch exclusively. “He’s planning to cook her a nice roast dinner at home and have her parents and extended family join them.”
The Princess of Wales, 42, is set to celebrate another trip around the sun on January 9 and will be joined by her husband, 42, and their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, for the momentous occasion.
“The kids are very excited about baking her a cake and have all sorts of decorations picked out, William has given them carte blanche when it comes to putting up silly decor for her so there will be lots of balloons and that sort of thing,” the source spills to In Touch.
Kate’s family has been an incredible support as she returned to her public duties after completing chemotherapy on the heels of her shocking cancer diagnosis. She revealed her focus has since shifted to staying “cancer free” in a video message.
“My path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” she shared in September 2024. “I am, however, looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”
Kate first opened up about her health battle last March following “planned abdominal surgery” that January.
William, who has been married to his college sweetheart since April 2011, is now eager to surprise Kate by whisking her away in honor of her upcoming birthday, the insider tells In Touch.
“He’s talking about taking her away for the night, somewhere close by so that they can have a romantic night just the two of them,” says the source. “Her parents are more than happy to stay with the kids and babysit, and he’s carved out a nice break in his schedule so that he can totally devote himself to focusing on her.”
In Touch previously learned that Kate is taking it easy and focused on her well-being going into the new year.
William admitted last November that 2024 was “probably the hardest year in my life” while recounting his wife and father, King Charles III, both being diagnosed with cancer.
“Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” he told BBC about their health struggles. “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done.”
Charles, 76, is continuing to undergo cancer treatment and kindly thanked the “selfless doctors and nurses” who helped him and his daughter-in-law fight their separate cancer battles during his Christmas service speech in Norfolk.
