Katie Maloney said she decided to quit Vanderpump Rules “months” before Bravo announced that the entire cast was fired, shared her reason for the decision, and hinted at talks with producers.
Last week, the network announced that the cast would be replaced with current servers from Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant. Many fans claimed last season was boring because of the cast’s refusal to reconcile after Tom Sandoval’s affair with Rachel Leviss.
Host Andy Cohen recently shared that he thinks the reboot – which also occurred with Real Housewives of New York – is a great decision.
“Vanderpump Rules as we know it is gonna be no longer,” said Katie on her Disrespectfully podcast, via @breakingtherulespodclips on Instagram. “They announced last Tuesday that they’re going to be rebooting it with an entirely new cast for season 12 and none of us OGs will be returning.”
She then addressed her co-host, Dayna Kathan.
“You know — as [well as] other people close to me — I didn’t plan on returning,” she added. “Maybe it doesn’t matter at this point, but I had made a decision months ago after [the last reunion].”
“I needed to move on with my life,” she said. “And this was before we knew the show is gonna be put on pause … I talked to producers about it.”
“I felt personally ready to move on from the show. I felt like my life and where I was at was moving in a different direction. Mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, I was prepared,” the star added. “Many seasons of my life was there. I lived many lives and went through so much on that show, but … I got to a point where I just don’t know that I can live and grow and be the version of myself I want to be on the show any longer.”
But Katie said she “understand[s]” Bravo’s decision to reboot the cast because the co-stars last season were “fractured,” and many of them “don’t hang out.”
“As far as it being a cohesive unit, it just doesn’t exist anymore,” she said. “So I felt like what made Vanderpump Rules, Vanderpump Rules … didn’t exist anymore.”
