Lamar reveals he has a special guest in mind to join him for his headlining set.
Kendrick Lamar has released a trailer in anticipation of his headlining performance at the upcoming Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, in which he seemingly reveals a guest performer who will take the field alongside him.
On Thursday afternoon (Jan. 23), Apple Music unveiled the 30-second clip on its YouTube page, which features Lamar standing between the 25-yard and 30-yard hashmarks on a football field.
In the midst of a conversation with an unknown caller, the rapper assures the person on the other line that everything is “smooth” regarding the anticipated performance, notifying them that he’s on the field at that very moment.
He continues to debrief the anonymous phoner on his conditioning for the coveted set, revealing that he’s been “keeping the body in motion” and “getting that wind up,” a declaration he previously made on the GNX track “man in the garden.”
While marveling at the sheer size of the football field, K.Dot is seemingly asked if he’s yet to choose any guest performers for the halftime show, a thought he says he has been considering.
Simultaneously, SZA walks towards him on the field, carrying a bucket filled with blue liquid, which she drenches the rapper with before he can finish his sentence.
The opening notes of “Hey Now,” another standout song from GNX, immediately comes on as the liquid splashes on Lamar, as the visual goes into slow motion.
SZA’s appearance in the trailer all but confirms that she may be one of the potential guests speculated to be joining Kendrick during the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, which takes place Sunday (Feb. 9) at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
The former labelmates have collaborated on multiple occasions, including their hit duet “All the Stars” from the Black Panther soundtrack, as well as the songs “luther” and “gloria” from Kendrick’s GNX album, which was released in November 2024.
Another music star who has been rumored to possibly appear during Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show is Lil Wayne, as the two lyrical titans recently cleared the air regarding the drama surrounding Kendrick being selected over Weezy. However, no confirmations have yet to come on that front.
