Kendrick Lamar has revealed he can hear God when he takes a minute to talk to him through prayer.
In his sit-down conversation with SZA for Harper's Baazar, Lamar was asked about his spiritual practices and how much they apply to his daily activities. According to K Dot, spirituality is a significant part of his life, specifically his conversations with God, in which he claimed he can hear every word the higher being is trying to get across to him.
"Ain't no bullshit. Ain't no cliché. But I literally talk to God," said Lamar. "Like, it's to a point where I'll be starting to think I'm going crazy. But then He has to remind me, 'No, this is really me.'"
Lamar is no fluke when it comes to talking to God. Earlier this year, during the commencement ceremony at Compton College, Lamar served as a guest speaker and highlighted how important it is to talk to God.
"I walk on the beach every day and I'm talking to God. I'm just talking," said Lamar. "Like he the homie. I swear to God I put that on my grandmother's grave. I talk to him, next to me like the homie. Just like the people you grow up with. I don't care if you got to curse, you talk to him as if you known him since you were born the way he knows you."
Lamar's spirituality also extends to his music, as he's referenced his spirituality in various songs such as "i," "Faith," and the intro to his major label debut album, Good Kid, m.A.A.d City. He's even spoke about his personal religious beliefs in several interviews.
In a conversation with Billboard back in 2015, Lamar claimed being one of God's favorites allowed him to avoid the pitfalls of his neighborhood that was riddled with crime and violence. He spoke on something similar with Complex in 2014, where he saidGod chose him to live out his greater purpose of using his voice as an instrument.
"I got a greater purpose," Lamar said. "God put something in my heart to get across, and that's what I'm going to focus on, using my voice as an instrument and doing what needs to be done."
