Lady Gaga is ready to dance, dance, dance.
The Grammy-winning singer will be joining the cast of Wednesday Season 2, more than a year after her song “Bloody Mary” went viral thanks to a TikTok user putting the track over Jenna Ortega‘s viral dance scene.
Details on her character have yet to be announced, however, a source confirmed Variety that Gaga’s role will be on the smaller side, a cameo — sources told the outlet “that the [Wednesday] production team had tried to get Gaga on the show for a larger role in season 2, but that ultimately did not work out.”
Last year, Jenna foreshadowed the Joker: Folie à Deux actress appearing on the show while speaking to Variety at the 2023 Golden Globes.
“I’m sure Netflix would love that,” she said. “Miss Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird kind of mentor relationship or understood each other in a certain way, so if Lady Gaga were to be a part of [Wednesday], they’d have to be two monsters who understand each other.”
Filming for Wednesday Season 2 began in late April 2024 in Ireland, with Jenna confirming to Extra that four episodes of the series had been shot as of August 2024.
The Tim Burton-produced and directed show premiered on Netflix in November 2022, and quickly became one of the most popular shows on the streaming platform. This led Netflix to officially renew Wednesday for Season 2 by January 2023.
So far, several cast additions have been announced by the streamer, including Thandiwe Newton, Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo and original Addams Family actor Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in the 1991 film.
“Our goal this season was to discover some fresh faces as well as invite some acting legends we’ve always admired to join Jenna and the gang at Nevermore,” Wednesday co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough told Tudum. “When we survey the talent we’ve assembled we could not be more thrilled. Mission accomplished.”
Along with playing the show’s titular character of Wednesday Addams, Jenna will also be acting as a producer this time around. During her cover story for Vanity Fair‘s 2024 Hollywood Issue earlier this year, she teased the upcoming plethora of new characters.
“Reading scripts has been exciting, seeing all of the new characters that are coming in,” she shared. “We’re definitely expanding on the supernatural world. Our show had all sorts of werewolves and vampires and da-ta-da. And I think we expand on that a little bit.”
