The Los Angeles Lakers captured their first win of the season in their season opener on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves, 110-103.
The Lakers snapped their seven-game season opener losing streak and looked great in the process. L.A. looked solid, led by their first-year head coach, JJ Redick. It was a great night for the purple and gold, especially when you consider that NBA history was made.
LeBron and Bronny James became the first NBA father-son duo in the sport's history. The special moment, which took place in the second quarter of the game, was great for the family and fans.
Many loved that moment, including NBA Hall of Famer and Lakers legend Shaquille O'Neal. O'Neal said he thought the moment of LeBron and Bronny on the court together was great.
"Great moment, great accomplishment," said O'Neal. "I would have loved to see him play more. Now this is over, I think he focuses on getting better. He won't be in that starting lineup probably won't be in that second lineup, but if I'm hi, I'm working somehow to get some type of rotation so he could get some type of flow. Because of his last name, we want him to be great, but like Bron said, there is 450 of us, and there are only a few rookies who came in and made a great impact immediately. But knowing the kid a long time, he works, he's willing to learn. I wish him well, but great accomplishment for the James family."
Bronny's NBA debut was a special moment, and while he didn't make a whole lot of noise, fans were eager for him to do something.
Bronny played three minutes and attempted two shots, one of which was a three, but he was unable to connect on either. Overall, he recorded zero points and zero assists. The 6-foot-2 point guard did manage to grab one offensive rebound.
This was the moment that LeBron, Bronny, Lakers fans, and the NBA world have been waiting for. After years of speculation on whether or not LeBron would play alongside his son, not only did it happen, but it happened while LeBron was still at the top of his game.
Although Bronny has been unable to record a point so far, LeBron has been his old self through the first half. In 35 minutes, LeBron recorded 16 points on 7-for-16 shooting, five rebounds, two blocks, and four assists.
The Lakers will now move on with their season, and Bronny will likely make his way to the G League, where he will spend the majority of his rookie season.
