Laura Fox wasn't nervous taking over from Jennifer Zamparelli on 2FM after years of grafting

Laura Fox didn't feel nervous taking over from Jennifer Zamparelli on 2FM.

The TV and radio presenter felt it was her time after years of putting herself out there and pitching ideas to station bosses.

Laura replaced Jennifer following her shock exit from 2FM earlier this year. After taking an extended break from the airwaves, she revealed to listeners that she would not be returning to her position as mid-morning host, with RTE swiftly announcing Laura as the new presenter of the 9am-12am time slot.

Laura felt prepared rather than nervous when she learned she was taking over the reins.

"No, I was so ready to go," she said.

"Because I've been in 2FM for so long, working my way through every role and constantly pitching ideas and contributing to shows, I had built up a relationship with the listeners, so by the time I got the weekday show, it was such a really nice feeling and I got a lot of support from the listeners.

"It's so surreal that everything I ever wanted has happened but that can be nerve-wracking at times too. I'm living in the moment and just enjoying it. It's amazing, it feels like it's finally happening."

Jennifer wished Laura well as she took over from her, both on the radio and privately in person. This is something the Galway native hugely appreciated.

"Jen has done so much for me over the years, and we had talked about this off air. When she handed it over, it was bittersweet for us all because I looked up to her for so long and she was leaving. She was so gracious about it, and I'll never forget that," Laura told the RTE Guide.

As well as Jennifer, a number of other high profile presenters left 2FM at the same time - Doireann Garrihy, The 2 Johnnies and Donncha O'Callaghan. But this didn't distract Laura from her new job.

She explained: "These things happen and they happen in every job; people move on. I was concentrating on my opportunities at the time, which was, I'd just been given my dream job. That's all I was focused on."

Laura loved seeing other talent at 2FM being presented with bigger opportunities.

"It's great to see my friends, who I came up the ranks with, like Emma Power, Carl Mullan and Aifric O'Connell, doing so well. We've all been in radio for so long and wanted to get on air and that's what happened in the last few months."

It has been a brilliant year for Laura, both personally and professionally. As well as moving to weekdays on 2FM, she is the host of Ireland's Fittest Family, reached the final of this year's Dancing with the Stars and recently got engaged to her partner Brian Moran.

"It just snowballed, it was one thing after another," she said.

"Dancing with the Stars happened so last minute for me, and I couldn't believe when that came through. I had been emailing them for years, looking to get on that show. I have no shame in my game!

"Then to get my dream show on radio; it's all just worked in harmony."
