Los Angeles rapper Lefty Gunplay, best known for his standout appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s GNX fan-favorite track “TV Off,” was arrested in El Paso, Texas, on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance.
According to El Paso jail records, the rapper was taken into custody on Monday (February 24) and charged with not wearing a seat belt, possessing a prohibited item in a correctional facility, and possession of a controlled substance.
The most serious charge involves possession of between four and 200 grams of an unidentified substance. Under Texas law, a conviction for this offense carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Despite the severity of the charges, Lefty Gunplay posted bond for just over $35,000 and was released the same day.
The rapper was in El Paso for a scheduled appearance at Friends Sports Bar & Kitchen, where he was set to host a party and deliver a limited performance. However, his arrest prevented him from making it to the event.
Speaking with local radio host Patti Diaz, Lefty briefly addressed the situation, hinting that he would share more details at a later time.
“Later on, I’ll get into further details on what really happened, but if you know, you know,” he said. “I feel like I gotta make it up to my El Paso fans. I know I got a lot of fans in Texas. Things didn’t work out the way they were supposed to, but at the end of the day, everything happens for a reason. I love Texas… Hopefully, we can make it right.”
As of now, Lefty Gunplay has not provided additional comments regarding the incident.
