Music career

One of the most successful aspects of Liam’s career was his musical endeavours. After auditioning for The X Factor for the second time in 2010, he was put into a group with Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, forming the hugely popular boy band One Direction.

Their song ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ was their first number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and it was certified four and six times platinum in the US and Australia, respectively.

Three more of their songs went number one in the UK, they were ‘Little Things’, ‘One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)’ and ‘Drag Me Down’.

Liam went solo when One Direction split up. His debut single ‘Strip That Down’ reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and number ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was certified platinum in both countries.

During the first three years of his solo career, he sold over 18 million singles, 2.4 million albums, and amassed 3.9 billion streams.
