Liam Payne and Danielle Peazer ended their relationship more than 10 years ago ― but it appears that the former One Direction member and his ex-girlfriend were on friendly terms up until his death last week at the age of 31.
On Sunday, Peazer paid tribute to Payne with a series of throwback photos and an emotional note on Instagram, in which she recalled their final exchange.
“Receiving a message from you a couple of weeks ago expressing your happiness for the love I found with Sonny and Mia is something I’ll cherish forever,” she wrote, alluding to her current partner, radio host Sonny Jay, and their daughter, Mia, who was born in May.
A London-based dancer and model, Peazer met Payne in 2010, the same year he competed on “The X Factor” as a member of One Direction. The pair dated for a little more than two years before their 2013 split.
Elsewhere in her note, Peazer expressed her condolences to Payne’s family, including his 7-year-old son, Bear. She also offered more anecdotes about some of the things she and Payne “went through and experienced” both during and after their romance.
“At times you were my favourite person in the world, but you could also wind me up so much and I probably annoyed the hell out of you sometimes too,” she wrote. “It was something we learned to accept of each other over 14 years, we could disagree on so many things yet still look out for each other in times of need and laugh about our disagreements and petty behaviour 10 mins later.”
“I think deep down we always knew we’d have some sort of connection forever, no matter where our individual lives took us,” she added.
Payne was found dead on Oct. 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
