Liam Payne's ex, Sophia Smith, engaged just two months after his tragic death

Sophia Smith, former girlfriend of Liam Payne, has gotten engaged to boyfriend James Bridgwood.

The news comes just two months after the singer's tragic death, with Smith posting a black-and-white video of the proposal on Instagram.

The video shows her and her new fianc? in pajamas and sitting on the floor covered with rose petals and a bottle of prosecco.

Smith can be seen smiling as Bridgwood places a ring on her finger. The couple share one-year-old daughter Angelina, who could be seen wandering around the room during the proposal.

"Yes a million times over 25.12.24," she captioned the video, which received hundreds of comments from fans and friends.

Smith made her relationship with Bridgwood official on Instagram in June 2022. She announced that she was pregnant with their first child in December 2022.

Smith and Payne dated for two years

As for Smith and Payne, they were childhood friends in Wolverhampton, England and later dated from 2013 to 2015.

"I didn't actually go out with her at the time [when we were younger]," Payne told Attitude in 2015. "I used to see her at school and we'd kind of chat. I asked her sister for her number.

"She was very shy and didn't give much indication that she liked me, so I just assumed that she wasn't interested, as well as thinking, she was way too hot for me anyway."

Payne noted that the two even discussed marriage, but ultimately opted to focus on their careers after calling it quits in October 2015.

"Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard," Payne told the Sun. "We spent so much time apart. But in order to do right by somebody, sometimes it's better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's better for them."

Payne went on to date Cheryl Cole followed by Maya Henry and Kate Cassidy. He was dating Cassidy at the time of his death on October 16 at the age of 31.
