Liam Payne 's girlfriend Kate Cassidy faced backlash after taking part her first interview following the death of the singer back in October.
The One Direction star fell to his death from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room on October 16, causing multiple traumas leading to an "internal and external haemorrhage".
After Liam's passing, influencer Kate kept a low profile and rarely posted on social media. She was spotted at his funeral in November, but did not arrive with his family.
But last night the 25 year old broke her silence in an exclusive interview, making some fans of the singer fume that it was "too soon".
Kate explained why she left Buenos Aires alone, four days before Liam's death.
She said: "I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think (he might die young). But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn’t the first time we have travelled separately."
She was given the terrible news by one of his friends, initially believing it was a hoax. But then had a "horrible feeling" it was true after remembering him open up about his difficulties over the years. She said she has since made repeated calls to his phone just to hear him speak on his personal voicemail greeting.
Fans of Liam took to social media to express their anger at Kate taking part in the interview.
One said: "Kate Cassidy broke down in tears" Guys am I blind cuz I see no tears."
Another said: "does anyone else find this really distasteful? It’s only been 4 months since Liam’s death."
One penned: "the sun exclusive with kate cassidy??? so soon?"
However, others felt differently.
One said: "My heart truly breaks for Kate Cassidy i hope she’s okay."
Another wrote: "Such a heartbreaking moment for Kate Cassidy. It’s clear how much she loved Liam. Her strength in sharing these painful details shows how deep their bond was.."
Another said: "I really hope kate cassidy can find peace, the way she’s been treated by people on the internet, especially while trying to grieve is just awful."
While one said: "i need to give kate cassidy the biggest hug in the world."
