Sarah's story, for some fans, is arguably the most heartbreaking of the film – just as her crush on her colleague Karl looks to finally be reciprocated and it seems she's finally getting her happy ending, she's interrupted by two phone calls from her brother, which she has to take right away.
Ultimately, the duo don't get together, and the last we see of them is when they bid each other a lonely goodbye.
As it turns out, there may have been some real life feelings pouring out in front of the cameras when Linney and Rodrigo Santoro were filming their infamous tear-jerker of a scene.
"I got the best kiss in that movie," Linney reflected while on The Graham Norton Show.
"Hands down! Hands down I got the best kiss, sorry!"
"We were both very broken-hearted when we made that movie," she continued.
"The day we were going to go shoot the scene, we both sort of slumped in the van, he was like, 'Laura, my heart is broken', I was like, 'So is mine!'"
Linney said she turned to Santoro and said they'd make each other feel better all day long while filming.
"And I think there is a sweetness to the scene because of that, we were both very sad."
