Madonna has seemingly confirmed a follow-up to one of her most acclaimed albums

Madonna has asked fans whether they want a follow-up to one of her most acclaimed albums.

The legendary musician, 66, shared a photo of herself to Twitter/X and teased fans with the potential sequel to one of her most-listened to projects. Sharing a photo of herself and long-time collaborator Stuart Price, Madonna seemingly confirmed a new album is on the way. It would mark her first studio release since 2019's Madame X.

Fans were thrilled by the post, with the "Queen of Pop" driving fans wild as she shared plans for a new piece of work. It seems the 66-year-old is reuniting with Price to make a continuation of one of her most critically acclaimed albums.

Taking to Twitter/X with a photo of her and Price, she wrote: "Confessions on a Dancefloor part 2?" Fans have since shared their excitement at a new Madonna project, with one writing: "OMGG I'M SO EXCITED!!!" Another added: "It's what the world needs." A third enthused fan wrote: "We're finally back."

Another user has shared the announcement is "something to look forward to" in the new year. They wrote: "I suspect it will have sonic echoes of COADF, but knowing you never ever repeat your sound, it will be something truly compelling and great."

There was some scepticism among fans, though. One user suggested they would wait until the album had released before they get excited for it. They wrote: "I never take this pre album stuff seriously she said MDNA was a mix of ray of light and confessions." But one user replied the mix was "better than both".

Others are excited for the album falling on the 20-year anniversary of the original Confessions on a Dancefloor release. One user wrote: "The way it would be 20 years after Confessions too, legendary!!"

Confessions on a Dance Floor marked Madonna's 10th album release. The critically acclaimed album released in 2005 and was tipped as a return to form for the singer-songwriter. While critically and commercially successful, the album also landed Madonna in the Guinness Book of World Records at the time, making her the "oldest artist to simultaneously top the UK singles and album charts."

Speaking of Confessions on a Dance Floor at the time of its release, Madonna claimed it was an album where she wanted to "feel buoyant." Speaking to MTV at the time, she said: "When I wrote American Life [her previous album], I was very agitated by what was going on in the world around me, [...] I was angry.

"I had a lot to get off my chest. I made a lot of political statements. But now, I feel that I just want to have fun; I want to dance; I want to feel buoyant. And I want to give other people the same feeling. There's a lot of madness in the world around us, and I want people to be happy."
