Despite all the injuries that they have suffered this season, the Orlando Magic are holding strong in the Eastern Conference standings. Orlando somehow sits just outside the top six of the East despite missing multiple crucial players.
One area that has plagued the Magic this season has been on the offensive end of the floor. But as we get closer to the NBA trade deadline, Orlando could look to add more firepower for their playoff push.
In this new trade proposal by Bill DiFilippo of Uproxx, the Magic grab a star guard to help their offensive attack. The deal would be between Orlando and the New Orleans Pelicans, sending C.J. McCollum to Florida.
Here is what the deal would look like:
Magic get: CJ McCollum
Pelicans get: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, Denver's top-5 protected 2025 first-round pick
"They're really good, and McCollum would give them some much-needed backcourt scoring chops. The best part about this for Orlando is that McCollum's longstanding issue of never really being a point guard isn't as big of a problem, because the team runs things through its two stars and Jalen Suggs, while Suggs (and the rest of the team, for that matter) can pick up some of the slack defensively."
Adding McCollum to the mix could drastically help the Magic out with their scoring issues. McCollum has been one of the better scoring guards that the NBA has to offer in recent years, even dropping 50 points earlier this season.
His presence within the Orlando lineup could make a big difference as they look to solidify themselves in the East. McCollum could pair alongside Paolo Banchero and give Orlando a legitimate duo to work around.
McCollum is also only under contract for one more season after this year so Orlando wouldn't be taking on a heavy burden with this deal. But having him on the roster could be the difference between an early playoff exit or a deep run this season.
Orlando has established itself as a gritty team that doesn't back down from anyone. But if they want to be successful in the playoffs, they will need to be able to score the ball.
The trade deadline will be here in a few short weeks and we will see how serious teams like the Magic are for this season.
