And while it's easy enough to grab a bag of frozen chips and throw them in the oven, it's also very simple to make your own delicious batch.

Even better, you can do so in just 20 minutes if you have an air fryer - and according to one chef on TikTok, they're guaranteed to be the 'best' you've ever tried.

Sam Stern, a London-based chef and author who has written seven cookbooks, shared his recipe for air fryer chips on social media and it's been hugely popular with more than 635.2K views to date.

Air fryer chips

Ingredients

  • 3-4 medium/large Maris Piper potatoes
  • Half tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • Three tbsp olive oil
  • One tsp oregano
  • One tsp garlic powder
  • One tsp smoked paprika
  • One tsp salt
  • Spray vegetable oil

Method

Slice the potatoes into 1cm batons. Sam recommends cutting the bottom of the potato off, to provide a flat surface for stability, which makes cutting easier.

Add to a large pan of cold water with salt and bicarbonate of soda. Bring to the boil and cook for five minutes or until knife tender. Drain and allow to dry on a baking tray until cool.

Meanwhile mix together the oil, oregano, garlic powder, paprika and salt. Drizzle over the potatoes and gently mix.

Spray the base of the air fryer with oil and preheat to 200C/392F.

Add the fries in a single layer and cook for 10-15 minutes until crisp and golden. Repeat if you have a small air fryer. Season with a little more salt if you like, and you're ready to serve.
