Man Who Leapt Toward Judge In Viral Courtroom Video Sentenced!

A man who launched himself at a judge in a viral video earlier this year has been sentenced.

For those who don’t recall, Deobra Redden was in court to be sentenced for felony battery on January 3 and asked Judge Mary Holthus for probation. However, she refused and said it was time for him to “get a taste of something else.” Redden wasn’t too happy about that comment, so much so that he ran across the Clark County District Court and leaped over the bench, landing on Judge Holthus! If you haven’t seen the moment yet, check it out (below):

Thankfully, Judge Holthus was fine after the incident. 8 News Now reported she only suffered a bump on her head. Wow. She was fortunate that the people around her jumped into action so fast! Per the Associated Press, Redden appeared before the magistrate again days later, where she officially sentenced him to up to four years in state prison for felony battery. But he wasn’t done yet! There was still the matter of the courtroom attack to address afterward!

According to the Associated Press, the 31-year-old pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder and other charges in September following the assault. Now, he has been sentenced for the crime — not by Judge Holthus but by District Court Judge Susan Johnson instead. And no, he did not fly over the bench again! Nothing as wild happened this time!

On Tuesday, Judge Johnson denied Redden’s attorney’s request that his sentence be served concurrently with his time in jail for the battery case. She then sentenced him to 26 to 65 years behind bars with credit for time served. He’ll be up for parole in 2050. Watch the sentencing (below):
