The Predator is returning to theaters, with Predator: Badlands arriving on Nov. 7, 2025.
The move comes after 20th Century Studios’ historical Predator feature Prey became a sleeper hit on Hulu in 2022. Prey director Dan Trachtenberg returns to helm Badlands, with Elle Fanning starring. Until now, it was unclear if the film would be for streaming for theatrical.
Predator takes the spot of Marvel Studios’ long-gestating Blade, which Disney removed from the release calendar. The move is not a surprise, as Blade is currently without a director and has faced numerous delays.
Marvel Studios announced Blade at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but has hit a number of snags on the way to the screen, including the pandemic, labor strikes and losing two filmmakers. But the studio is intent on making the film, which stars Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire hunter. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed his commitment to the project in July, telling Black Tree TV: “For the last few years, as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it, and making sure we are making the right Blade movie. Because there were some great Blade movies years ago.”
Marvel mainstay Eric Pearson, known for Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok, is the current writer on the script. Wesley Snipes starred in a trilogy of Blade films from 1998-2004, and had a surprise role in this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which helped bring the character back to the forefront. (It even featured a meta-joke in which Snipes’ version of Blade remarked there would never be another Blade besides him, to which Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool looks at the screen knowingly.)
Marvel also claimed several release dates for untitled projects on Feb. 18, 2028, May 5, 2028 and Nov. 10, 2028.
As for Predator, the franchise began life with the 1987 movie that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. It has had ups and downs over the years, with Prey reinvigorating the concept of an alien hunter who comes to Earth to face off against the most dangerous prey the planet has to offer.
