MasterChef judge John Torode has revealed how co-star Gregg Wallace sparked a row with his wife.
In an interview with the Times in 2022, John opened up about Wallace's unusual habit. He said: "With Gregg my issue is the 6am phone calls. Last time it happened I wasn't very happy and I said, 'Gregg, mate, it's 6am'.
"And he said, 'But you're on my list!' That's the thing with Gregg, he gets up very early and his whole life is diarised and run on lists."
The early morning calls to his TV partner also got on the wrong side of his wife, actress Lisa Faulkner, as she slept next to him in bed.
Speaking again on the issue earlier this year, the MasterChef presenter said that his interview two years ago stopped Wallace's irritating habit immediately as he said: “As soon as that article came out those calls stopped."
Meanwhile, Lisa admitted that Wallace's early morning calls weren't the only part of her marriage with John that 'annoyed' her: "Every couple has those little things that annoy them."
She added: "I can't bear it when John sings along to Supertramp. That's where our seven-year age gap really shows. Give a Little Bit by Supertramp and Mr Blue Sky by ELO - I just can't do it, I'm sorry."
In a 2017 interview Torode claimed that he and Wallace weren't even friends: “It's funny, we've never been friends. We've not been to each other's houses... He's so OCD, he wouldn't know what to do."
It comes as Gregg Wallace stepped down from the hit cookery show yesterday (Thursday, November 28) while historical allegations made by 13 people that he made inappropriate sexual comments are investigated. The allegations were made by people working across a range of shows over a 17-year period.
In a statement concerning the allegations, the production company behind MasterChef, Banijay UK said: "This week the BBC received complaints from individuals in relation to historical allegations of misconduct while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows.
“Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met, are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.”
Wallace's lawyers say it is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature.
Wallace had presented and judged on the popular cooking show with John Torode since 2005. Besides his role on the hit BBC show, he has also featured as a contestant on the Chase and Celebrity Catchphrase.
